This Guild Wars 2 build for Warriors uses a mace and shield for weapons and focuses on physical utilities for control of your enemy. This will allow us to get plenty of abilities that will annoy the hell out of any opponent locking them up, knocking them down, and interrupting.

Since this is a defensive build you can focus on toughness and vitality for your runes and amulet. We also get 5% of our toughness converted to power through our trait line so it would be smart to focus on stacking toughness to benefit both stats. I recommend Superior Rune of the Dolyak and the Soldier’s Amulet.

For this Warrior build, we are going to use the Mace and Shield. The first three abilities you get are provided by the mace and give some nice abilities with weakness, block, and a daze. Your shield skills fill your last two weapon slots, the first is a stun and the last is your block. I like to use the warhorn as my weapon swap so I can get Charge that grants swiftness which is very helpful in PvP to get to different locations quickly. This ability also benefits nearby allies and cures chilled, crippled, and immobilize.

For your healing skill, pick up Mending because it removes two conditions in addition to your heal. As you know, condition removal is vital to survival whether in PvP or PvE.

For our utility skills, we are going to pick up Bull’s Charge to charge at your enemy and knock back fleeing foes. Next select Throw Bolas to throw bolas and immobilize your enemy.  Lastly, pick up Kick which will push back your target with a kick. These are all Physical Utilities and we will be buffing them through our traits.

For your elite skill, Signet of Rage is perfect. The passive ability grants adrenaline which will be important to this build as I will explain later. When activated, the signet grants Fury, Might, and Swiftness. These boons last 30 seconds and the cooldown is 60 so you only have to wait another 30 seconds to use again.

This build will mostly focus on two trait lines, Defense (increasing our Toughness and Healing) and Strength (increasing Power and Condition Duration) with 30 points in each. The remaining 10 points will go into Discipline (increases Critical Damage).

In the Defense trait line, we will be targeting Turtle’s Defense, Sundering Mace, and Shield Master. With Turtle’s Defense, we get +200 Toughness when crippled, chilled, stunned, or immobilized. Sundering Mace will increase our mace damage by 10% when a foe is weakened and reduce the cooldown of mace skills by 20%.

The first mace ability will apply weakness to your foe. Finally, Shield Master provides a +90 bonus to Toughness when using a shield and shield skills are reduced by 20%. Additionally through this trait line, we get Armored Attack that will give 5% of Toughness as a bonus to Power to give us some extra punch to the build.

Moving on to the Strength trait line. The first group of traits do not really benefit this build that much so we are going with Berserker’s Power to give us some attacking power to the build since Great Fortitude will only give us an additional 1k health. Berserker’s Power increases damage based on how much adrenaline you have built. Next, grab Distracting Strike to apply confusion when you interrupt a foe. And for the final trait, we are selecting Physical Training especially since we selected all physical utilities. This will increase the damage of these utilities by 100% and recharge them 20% faster.
